You live in your body so taking care of it is critical to living a long and lively life. Unfortunately much of how we live today is detrimental to our health. Take for example being overweight or obese. These aren’t cosmetic problems; being overweight or obese greatly raises your risk for other health problems such as high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, stroke, type-2 diabetes, cancer, and more.

If your dream is to stay active and engaged as you get older, now is the time to check in and have an honest look at where you stand in regards to your health, starting with your weight.

Find a scale, strip down to at least your underwear, and weigh yourself. Then go here and input your weight and your height

to get your Body Mass Index (BMI). BMI is a reliable indicator of body fatness for most people and is used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems. So, where do you stand? Underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese?

While BMI is useful as a starting point, many people feel it’s not a great measure of overall health

. For instance, BMI makes no distinction between muscle mass and fat mass. That said, with an honest assessment of your activity level and current body composition, knowing your BMI is important, if for nothing more than providing a starting point for moving yourself to a new weight, a new level of fitness, a new way of living, and a new life.
